Being aware of which foods can be eaten up at the same time is the heart of this weight loss strategy. When you eat up harmonious foods at the same meal, your digestive system is able to do its task the right way. Adopt these tips to have a better digestive tract.

You can split foods into one of four groups according to their digestive characteristics. You can classify foods into the four types: protein, sugars, fruits, and non-starchy vegetables. Foods that are good source of protein are all meats and fish, dairy products, almost all nuts, and soya bean foods. Carbohydrate-rich food include potatoes and starchy veggies, grains such as rice, corn, oats and millet, pasta, honey, sweets, and baked food items like bread, cookies, cakes, and pastry doughs. Salad ingredients form the non-starchy veggie category, along with herbs and a few seeds.

Within the group  of fruits are four sub categories: acidic, sub-acidic, sweet and melons. Sweet fruits include: bananas, figs, dates, prunes, and nearly all dried fruits. Pineapples, lemons, oranges, and grapefruits are the well known fruits belonging in the acidic class. Sub-acidic fruits include: apples, papaya, mango, plums, kiwi, peaches, and nearly all berries. Melons include watermelon, sweet melon, honeydew, and several other melons.

These different types of foods call for different conditions in the digestive track to entirely break down and be assimilated. Whereas an alkaline condition is necessary to totally break down sugars, for example, an acidic condition is needed by proteins. Combining both food types in one meal produces a stress on the digestion. The resulting incomplete digestion is asking for trouble. Bloating, reflux, stomach cramps, gas and even irritable bowel syndrome could result from consuming wrong food combinations over a period of time.

If you adhere to the following tips, you’ll feel a lot better after eating. At each meal, resolve if you will take protein-rich foods or carbs, but not both. You may eat foods high in protein or carbohydrates with non-starchy veggies.

Eat fruits on their own, and, preferably when your stomach is empty. You may blend sub-acid fruits with either sweet-tasting or sour fruits. Melons should not be eaten up with any other fruit.

Furthermore, the time your body needs to digest the various kinds of food varies. Carbohydrates are digested in a couple of hours while proteins need 4 hours for total digestion. Don’t eat carb foods for four hours after eating protein, for instance.
